WordPress SEO 3 tips to rank your page faster

Want to learn now?

Ok, here are the 3 steps: first, optimize your pages. Then create an XML site map, then submit that sitemap to google.  Let’s jump on my computer to take a look at how we do all this.

1:27 Optimization with Yoast plugin tool for WordPress SEO

I’ve already selected the keywords so I know what I’m optimizing for. I’m going to take the first 5 pages of my website, go into the editor and make sure I’m optimized for that keyword.

Go through Yoast.

Create hyperlinks to other content!!

3:22 Ok, now that we’ve got 5 pages optimized, what we’re going to do is create an XML sitemap

An XML sitemap is a file that helps Google understand your website more productively. Let’s shoot back to my screen for a walk through on how to do that.

I use this tool…yoast seo plugin to save it on desktop

4:30 Now once we’ve created that sitemap, we’re going to upload it into your Google Webmaster Account. This will immediately activate the search engine bots called Spiders to crawl your site and establish that credibility. Give a little bit of time and check Google again to see where you’re ranking. You can also go to SERPS.com and find out where your page is ranking for those keywords.

Transcripts of the Video:

00:00
follow the advice in this video and you
00:01
might be ranking on Google by the end of
00:03
the day that’s coming up hey everybody
00:10
this is Owen at the video spot dotnet
00:12
where we train teach and educate
00:14
business owners to become rockstars
00:16
superstars in your industry and today is
00:20
no exception my friends we’re going to
00:22
be talking about how to do search engine
00:24
optimization or SEO for your business
00:27
now SEO has changed a lot and it’s going
00:29
to continue to change but there are some
00:31
basic principles that can be that will
00:33
be valuable to you no matter at what
00:35
stage in the game you’re watching this
00:38
whether it’s today or a year from today
00:40
so here are the three things that we’re
00:43
going to cover today number one you’ve
00:45
got to be creating great content all the
00:47
time regularly your website can never
00:51
just sit – you’re going to need to
00:54
optimize that content using the
00:57
WordPress SEO plug-in called Yoast and
01:01
you’re going to want to go and download
01:02
that right away
01:03
third create an XML sitemap using the
01:08
Yoast plug-in and send it to the search
01:11
engines so that they recrawl your site
01:14
this will help you to rank for those new
01:17
pages immediately and put more content
01:20
out there let me show you how to do this
01:23
right now let’s go to my computer screen
01:26
okay so here I am in the back end of my
01:29
WordPress and you can see that I’ve
01:31
already installed Yoast plug-in for SEO
01:35
and I can tell because I’ve got these
01:36
SEO um fields right here but I’ve also
01:40
got a series of green gray red and I
01:44
might even have some orange dots in here
01:46
somewhere which basically means have not
01:49
been optimized poorly optimized ready to
01:52
optimize and then there’s an orange
01:53
button or a yellow button that says kind
01:55
of like middle-of-the-road could use
01:56
some more work so what I’m going to do
01:58
is I’m going to pick a page that’s not
01:59
optimized how about my about Us page and
02:01
I’m going to go in here you can see I’ve
02:04
already written the content here and I’m
02:06
going to scroll down to the WordPress by
02:08
Yoast field section down here
02:10
and then I’m going to start to optimize
02:12
the page by first focusing on a main
02:15
keyword which would be video marketing
02:18
companies and it’s going to run a test
02:21
for me to find out where I’m optimized
02:23
so now I need to know now I know that I
02:25
need to add the keyword in the article
02:27
heading the page title the page URL and
02:29
so forth so I’m going to go ahead and
02:31
get those things done right now okay now
02:35
you can see that we’ve got some changes
02:37
here we’ve got all the key the keywords
02:40
found where they need to be it says know
02:41
right here but the keyword is in the
02:44
article heading so I’m not sure why
02:46
that’s not working but overall you can
02:48
see that we have a good check on our SEO
02:51
so my goal now would be to optimize for
02:54
more pages so that you have a total of
02:55
five and then you can move on to your
02:58
next step an XML sitemap is a file that
03:01
helps Google to understand your
03:03
website’s structure a little bit more
03:05
effectively and it makes it more
03:07
crawlable and searchable for the search
03:09
engines so let’s go back to my computer
03:11
and take a look at what that looks like
03:12
okay so we’re back in the web site here
03:17
in the backend and you can see that our
03:18
about Us page has been properly
03:20
optimized so now we’re going to go to
03:22
the left hand side of the screen and
03:24
we’re going to scroll down to where it
03:25
says SEO and we’re going to click on XML
03:28
sitemaps and what we’re going to do here
03:31
is generate a sitemap and send it to
03:34
Google and that is going to recrawl the
03:37
site automatically so we’re going to go
03:40
up here this is really easy check this
03:42
box to enable XML sitemap functionality
03:45
you can retrieve your sitemap here which
03:48
is neat to kind of look at because you
03:50
can see if you’ve got any dead links and
03:52
things like that now what I have here is
03:56
some general settings it’s automatically
03:58
going to pain giggle and Bing but it’s
04:00
not going to ping Yahoo and ask.com
04:01
unless you click these buttons which
04:04
I’ve done I’m excluding a variety of my
04:08
post types because I don’t want things
04:11
like my images to pop up or pages that I
04:14
don’t have content for like my FAQ S or
04:17
my news right these are features of my
04:19
theme that I don’t need
04:21
google crawling because it’s going to
04:23
make me I don’t want somebody stumbling
04:25
on those pages similarly I want to
04:27
exclude these taxon amines right I don’t
04:29
want people finding my categories page
04:31
or my tags page and and things like this
04:34
you may opt out of that I’m not going to
04:37
do that I’m going to Save Changes and
04:39
boom it’s done it saved my XML sitemap
04:43
and it’s automatically pinged Google and
04:46
Bing so now Google’s going to crawl my
04:47
site and they’re going to see my new
04:49
pages with my new optimization and
04:51
that’s going to help those pages rank
04:53
faster whew
04:55
so we did a lot of stuff here today and
04:58
they were really breaking down into
04:59
three simple steps which is create and
05:01
optimize pages this is a process that
05:03
has to be going on throughout the course
05:06
of your website you know build five new
05:08
pages a month for example then create an
05:10
XML sitemap for your site and then
05:13
submit that site to Google and ask for a
05:16
crawl you should be doing this over and
05:18
over and over again but I want to take a
05:20
quick timeout and ask do you understand
05:22
what we’re doing so far and why we’re
05:25
doing it if you have questions ask them
05:28
in the comments below guys I will answer
05:31
your questions and in some cases I might
05:33
even make a video for them if you want
05:36

05:37
and you want to take it to the next
05:38
level you’re going to want to subscribe
